Every overall score on TopRatedSoftware is a weighted average of the criteria below. Weights are category-specific; the default weights shown here apply unless a category page publishes its own.

Value
15%Pricing relative to features and competitor offerings, including renewal terms.
Support & Updates
10%Customer support quality and frequency of meaningful updates.
Security & Privacy
5%Data handling, encryption, transparency, and historical incidents.
Editorial status vs score
A review's content status tells you how the score was produced. Lab Tested scores are derived from observed measurements. Expert Researched scores are derived from published benchmarks, vendor documentation, and verified user evidence compiled by our editorial team. The math is the same; the strength of evidence differs.
Score changes
Scores change when new evidence is published. Major version updates, pricing changes of 20% or more, or material feature changes trigger a re-review. Each review page shows the last verified date.
What we do not measure
- Commission rates or affiliate payouts.
- Marketing reach or partner status of the vendor.
- Personal preferences of the reviewing editor.
- Vendor-supplied testimonials that we cannot independently confirm.
